Flights of fancy and live music.THE majestic sight of giant hot air balloons filling the skies above Llangollen will once again draw thousands of people this weekend. The hot air balloon is the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology, dating back to its invention by the Montgolfier brothers in Annonay, Festival takes place at the Royal International Pavilion, spread over three days. It opens at 6pm tonight when, weather permitting, more than 25 balloons will launch, and then it's party time until 11pm with an outside stage featuring live music. The major highlight of the weekend will be tomorrow's nightglow when the balloons will gather above the site and switch their burners on to the accompaniment of live music to create what Show Organiser David Green reckons will be an awesome experience. But there will be plenty of activity elsewhere over the weekend with balloon tethering displays, motorcycle display riders, falconry falconry (fôl`kənrē, fô`–, făl`–), sport of hunting birds or small animals with falcons or other types of hawks; eagles are used in some parts of the world. and horse-riding as well as a larger than ever children's area featuring workshops and games. The Pavilion will also again host the UK's only indoor model hot air balloon festival, a large craft fair, a funfair, amusements and a host of stalls. Tickets are on sale online and by phone and the organisers are recommending booking in advance while a new weekend pass means you can return on Sunday for less than half price.
