(CV 63) carrier strike group, above, the Fighting Redtails of Sea Control Squadron (VS) 21 began preparing for their deactivation de·ac·ti·vate tr.v. de·ac·ti·vat·ed, de·ac·ti·vat·ing, de·ac·ti·vates 1. To render inactive or ineffective. 2. To inhibit, block, or disrupt the action of (an enzyme or other biological agent). 3. in January 2005, concluding 59 years of dedicated service. Prior to the official deactivation ceremony on 4 November, VS-21 is planning a week-long celebration of the squadron's successes and contributions to Naval Aviation. Held at NAF NAF National Arbitration Forum NAF National Academy Foundation NAF National Abortion Federation NaF sodium fluoride NAF Naval Air Facility NAF National Ataxia Foundation NAF New America Foundation (think tank) Atsugi, Japan, "Redtail Week" will include events such as a picnic; golf tournament, softball, volley ball other sporting events; and will culminate in the final Redtail Ball with music, dancing and other entertainment. Following the deactivation ceremony, VS-21 aircraft will be flown to the United States. Regular maintenance will continue to keep the jets prepared for turnover to other squadrons or for transfer to the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. The 7,000 military and 1,600 civilian employees who work on the base are paid $199 million annually, and the base has an estimated $750 million economic impact on Tucson as a whole. , Ariz., for retirement. Before any Vikings are flown to the desert, one aircraft will be painted in a WW II paint scheme, including nose art, to commemorate VS-21's history.
