Flight nurses' course extremely popular.

An education course for flight nurses, organised by NZNO NZNO New Zealand Nurses Organisation  special interest section, the New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  Flight Nurses' Association (NZNFA), has been oversubscribed Refers to connecting more users to a system than can be fully supported if all of them were using it at the same time. Networks and servers are almost always designed with some amount of oversubscription, counting on the fact that everybody does not need the service simultaneously.  and the association is now planning another course for later this year. The course in Wellington next month will be presented by Australian flight nurse expert Bevan Nyland and 25 nurses will attend. The association has run a number of courses in previous years. The association committee met in Wellington for two days last month and planning and selection for the course were on the agenda. The Ministry of Health's chief nursing adviser Mark Jones attended the meeting to discuss the Ministry's position on inter-hospital transport. Jones spent the morning with the committee and this was very informative and productive. We expect to be included in future consultation on inter-hospital transport policy. Jones also expressed an interest in attending some of the course and accompanying a flight nurse on a flight.

The upcoming symposium, Managing Challenging Flight, which is to be held in Hastings in June, was also on the agenda. For further information on the symposium, contact Flo Pollard pollard

Section rules and standards and a business and operational plan for the next financial year were also discussed at the meeting.

The NZNFA is for nurses working or interested in the aviation environment. Flight nurses must extend the principles of basic and advanced nursing practice into the aviation environment, while recognising that the provision of competent flight nurse practice requires a sound knowledge and understanding of the physiological effects of altitude altitude, vertical distance of an object above some datum plane, such as mean sea level or a reference point on the earth's surface. It is usually measured by the reduction in atmospheric pressure with height, as shown on a barometer or altimeter.  and of the aviation environment as a workplace.

Membership of the section is currently 300. Members come from many different nursing specialties In the modern world, there are a large number of specialities within nursing. Professional organizations or certifying boards issue voluntary certification in many of these specialties. , including critical care, neonatal neonatal /neo·na·tal/ (ne?o-nat´'l) pertaining to the first four weeks after birth.
