Flatiron to Design and Build New Calgary Ring Road as Part of Public-Private Partnership (P3) Team.


LONGMONT, Colo. -- Flatiron Constructors secured a CAN$408-million contract to design and construct the northeast portion of the new Calgary Ring Road around Alberta's largest city.  Trail Constructors, a joint venture led by Flatiron Constructors with Parsons and Graham Construction and Engineering, to design and build a new 21-kilometer (13-mile) portion of the ring road.

This is the second portion of the ring road to be developed. Under Alberta's public-private partnership Public-private partnership (PPP) describes a government service or private business venture which is funded and operated through a partnership of government and one or more private sector companies. These schemes are sometimes referred to as PPP or P3.  for highways process, "a private-sector partner is responsible for the design, construction, financing, and operation of a roadway for 30 years [and] Government is guaranteed a fixed price and delivery date for the road."1

The first portion of the ring road, a 15-kilometer (9-mile) stretch in northwest Calgary, was developed using a traditional design-bid-build process and will be complete in the fall of 2008.

Flatiron will be responsible for constructing the northeast portion of the ring road, which will extend from Deerfoot Trail Deerfoot Trail is a freeway section of Highway 2 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Flatiron is currently involved with an award-winning P3 project in the province of British Columbia British Columbia, province (2001 pop. 3,907,738), 366,255 sq mi (948,600 sq km), including 6,976 sq mi (18,068 sq km) of water surface, W Canada. Geography

The northeast portion of the Calgary Ring Road is slated for completion in Fall 2009.
