FlashPoint Introduces Digita Developer Alliance to Expand Digital Imaging Market; New Platform Establishes an After-Market for Camera Software Accessories.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1998--FlashPoint today announced the Digita(TM) Developer Alliance, a program designed to enable and encourage developers and enthusiasts to create PC-like software applets that run inside Digita-enabled digital cameras.

Digita is the industry's first standard operating environment (standard) Standard Operating Environment - (SOE) A specification of the architecture, operating systems, application set and configuration of computers within an organisation.  designed specifically to deliver intelligence to the next-generation of digital imaging devices. By tapping into this open platform, enthusiasts can customize their Minolta Dimage EX ZOOM 1500, Kodak DC220 and DC260 cameras, as well as author software for mass-market distribution.

"Digita provides the platform that is fueling incremental Additional or increased growth, bulk, quantity, number, or value; enlarged.

market growth. For the first time, consumers can create an unlimited amount of in-camera `killer' apps that will create a whole new category of after-market software accessories for digital imaging products," said Stephen D. Saylor, executive vice president of FlashPoint Technology.

"Much in the same way palm PC users customized their organizers, it will be the digital imaging enthusiasts and photography visionaries who will define compelling usage scenarios for Digita-enabled products. The open architecture behind Digita will allow consumers to contribute to, and benefit from, this new platform, triggering explosive market expansion."

The entry point for the Digita Developer Alliance is the Digita Script programming language that is embedded Inserted into. See embedded system.  in every Digita-enabled device. Programming with Digita Script is an intuitive and simple process that encourages customer participation.

It can be done with a simple text-based editor, such as the notepad The text editor that comes with Windows. It is a very elementary utility, but gets the job done most of the time. See text editor and WordPad.

This innovative digital imaging platform allows for recurring customization of these products, which not only continually increases their overall value, but also alleviates product obsolescence ob·so·les·cent

"The Digita operating environment In computing, an operating environment is the environment in which users run programs, whether in a command line interface, such as in MS-DOS or the Unix shell, or in a graphical user interface, such as in the Macintosh operating system.  and corresponding developer alliance are catalysts for digital still camera market growth, providing targeted and standardized solutions (Chem.) a solution which is used as a reagent, and is of a known and standard strength; specifically, a normal solution, containing in each cubic centimeter as many milligrams of the element in question as the number representing its atomic weight; thus, a normal solution of silver  for consumer, trade and vertical applications," said Michelle Lampmann, research analyst, InfoTrend Research Group.

Joining the Digita Developers Alliance

To register for the Digita Developers Alliance, programmers simply log onto FlashPoint's website, www.flashpnt.com, and complete a one-time online profile. Once registered, developers can then download all of the necessary materials to begin building Digita Scripts.

After registration, programmers can access frequently asked questions to guide them through the creation process. If developers require individualized instruction Individualized instruction is a method of instruction in which content, instructional materials, instructional media, and pace of learning are based upon the abilities and interests of each individual learner.  or need technical support, they can e-mail a dedicated developer specialist at devadmin@flashpnt.com for a response within two business days.

Developer Alliance Delivers Real-World Solutions

Software developers and users can create customized applets to meet their evolving digital imaging needs and address diverse market requirements. For example, professional photographers can directly access advanced camera functions like f-stop and shutter speed In a still camera, the length of time that the shutter is open, exposing the film (analog) or CCD or CMOS sensor (digital) to light for a single image. In a camcorder, the shutter speed is the frame speed; for example, 24, 30 or 60 frames per second (fps). See exposure and shutter lag.  giving them more control over their images.

Real estate agents can photograph homes, automatically build in-camera Web pages and immediately post them for potential buyers thereby saving valuable time and streamlining workflow. And photo enthusiasts can easily sort and categorize cat·e·go·rize
