Five acquisitions for United Business Media; company reports results.


United Business Media (London), parent of CMP Technology CMP Technology (formerly CMP Media) is a business-to-business multimedia company that provides information and integrated marketing services to technology professionals worldwide.  (Manhasset, NY), has completed four purchases and has agreed to a fifth. The company has also reported first half 2007 financial results.

 has bought Semiconductor Insights Inc. (Kanata, ON) for an initial cash consideration of $26 million, with a further possible consideration of $8 million to be payable over the next three years, subject to certain conditions.

UBM has also acquired How Machines Work Corp. (Evanston, IL) for an initial cash consideration of $1.2 million with a deferred consideration of up to $600,000 payable over the next two years, subject to certain conditions. How Machines Work Corp. is a designer and developer of new interactive online environments that are created as components of customized technology marketing campaigns. Typically, the company uses games and online environments to develop content and marketing information for technology clients that include such companies as Siemens, HP and Automation Direct. It will be integrated into UBM's CMP Technology Innovators Group.

In addition, UBM's CMP Information CMP Information (CMPi) is the European magazine and events business of United Business Media plc. CMPi is based in the UK and operates internationally with operations in 16 countries.  (London) unit has signed an agreement to purchase Intermodal South America South America, fourth largest continent (1991 est. pop. 299,150,000), c.6,880,000 sq mi (17,819,000 sq km), the southern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  Trade Show (Sao Paulo; (cont'd on p. 2)(cont'd from p. 1) Intermodal SA) from management for $7 million. Also, UBM's CMPMedica (London) healthcare unit has purchased the Australian Prescription Products Guide (Melbourne) for A$1 million (0.4 million [pounds sterling]). The Guide is a print/online drug information brand for the Australian pharmacy market and includes more than 3900 prescription and non-prescription product information monographs and almost 2000 consumer medicine information (CMI (Computer-Managed Instruction) Using computers to organize and manage an instructional program for students.  was down 1.6%, going from 82.3 million [pounds sterling] last year to 81 million [pounds sterling] in the first six months of 2007. UBM said that six-month revenues were reduced by 20 million [pounds sterling] and operating profit by 4.4 million [pounds sterling] due to the decline in the US dollar against Sterling.
