Five New Members Elected to the 2005 PMI Board of Directors.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. -- Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading not-for-profit advocacy association for the project management profession, today announced the names of five newly-elected Members of the PMI's Board of Directors to begin serving three-year terms on January 1, 2005. These five accomplished project management practitioners will join their colleagues on the PMI Board of Directors to map the strategic direction of the Institute for the next several years.

Included in this group of new Directors is incumbent Board Member Louis J. Mercken, PMP, who will be starting his second term. Mercken is the managing partner of Assist Consulting and executive partner of Threon, two Belgium-based management consulting companies. Since 1997, he has trained more than 2,000 people in project management culture and serves as an executive professor at the University of Antwerp Management School.

Frederick A. Arnold, PMI Fellow, is a past recipient of the PMI Distinguished Contribution Award. Arnold currently serves on the PMI Ethics Review Committee and is project manager for the PMI Educational Foundation's pro bono projects. Additionally, Arnold is a founding member of the PMI Pittsburgh Chapter and has served as both president and cofounder of the chapter's Project Management Office roundtable. He currently is the managing director of a project management and business services consulting firm and has experience establishing and managing several project management offices.

The first Chinese citizen to receive the Project Management Professional (PMP(R)) credential, Yanping Chen, Ph.D., PMP, is President of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) in Roslyn, Virginia USA. She is also Chief Executive Officer of UMT's parent company, the Yankee Clipper Group of Arlington, Virginia USA. Before coming to the United States in 1987, Dr. Chen was the Director of Planning for the Chinese space flight program.

As founder, President and CEO of Ringstones Consulting International Inc. of Houston, Texas USA, Yamile Candales Jackson, Ph.D., PMP, has provided project management consulting and training throughout the world and sponsored project management research concentrated on project risk management. Dr. Jackson is an adjunct professor of engineering management at the University of Houston and in the MBA program at the Voralberg University of Applied Sciences in Austria.

Rounding out the list of newly-elected Directors is Kathleen Stehly, who has more than 10 years experience working in the information technology, finance, retail manufacturing, health, government and nonprofit sectors. Bringing a diverse and rich project management background to the Board, Stehly sits on the PMI Specific Interest Group (SIG) Development and Excellence Committee and was a founding Member of the Retail SIG. She holds a Master's Certificate in project management from George Washington University in Washington, DC USA.

In an ad hoc session, the 2005 PMI Board of Directors also elected officers and these individuals truly reflect the global nature of PMI's membership. Louis J. Mercken, MBA, PMP, of Belgium was elected Chair; Iain Fraser, FPMINZ, PMP, of New Zealand and a continuing Director was elected Vice Chair; Terrance G. Warren, PMP, MACE, MAPM, APMP, of the United Kingdom and an incumbent Director was elected as Secretary/Treasurer and Chair, Performance Oversight Committee; Linda Vella, PMP, of Canada and a continuing Director was elected Chair of the Strategic Planning and Program Alignment Committee; and Karen Tate, PMP, of Ohio USA and also an incumbent Director was elected Chair of the External Relations and Volunteer Involvement Committee.

The newly elected officers will join Mark Austin, PMP; Philip R. Diab, MBA, PMP; Jim Gallagher, PMP; Bruce J. Rodriques, PMP, MBL, PrEng; Katherine J. Shawver, PMP; and Gregory Stine, PMP, on the 2005 Board of Directors.
