Minneapolis, MN. In addition, Industrial Design Form Corp. was named the
overall winner, having received the highest score among all entries.
Industrial Design Form's winning entry was a Great Buffet (Wave), one of seven new pieces introduced in the collection of designer Luis Lozada. The buffet combines wood color and texture with a mix of African lacewood and solid mahogany bases. Swanson Woodwork, in a first for the competition, won two separate categories. The winner in the kitchen/bath cabinetry category was a remodeled kitchen featuring cherry cabinets, mantle and worktable. Accu-Trim's winning entry was a two-story Brazilian cherry library, living room entertainment center and basement entertainment center. The first award ever given in the laminate casework category went to E.P.W.'s communications room for the Sacramento Medical Foundation. The centerpiece of the room is a 18-foot-wide soffit covered with metal laminate. Tux and Zoot, a pair of portrait mirrors made of solid maple and purpleheart pur·ple·heart n. 1. A tropical tree (Peltogyne paniculata) native to Guiana and Trinidad, having very hard, durable brown wood that turns a purple color on exposure. 2. , recut veneers of tay, sapele Sapele (səpā`lē), city (1991 est. pop. 123,000), S Nigeria, a port in the Niger delta. The awards program was instituted in 1993 to recognize some of the unique functional projects being produced by professional custom woodworkers.
