Fiumicino Two master plan revealed.
It is intended to increase the airport's capacity from 35 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 105 mppa. Approximately 3,212 acres (1,300 hectares) will be added to the airport's existing area of 3,707 acres (1,500ha). The new 6,996,452sq ft (650,000[m.sup.2]) terminal wilt be shaped like the letter 'H', and located north of Runway 07/25 between the existing parallel runways. Two more runways are also planned.
Focus will also be placed on the environment, with an expected 85% of energy to be produced using natural sources, such as the sun. ADR is planning to install state-of-the-art high technology glass which will also act as solar panels; a new multi-power electricity generator; a people mover; and a railroad station. Additional road and railroad networks will improve access to the airport, to meet ADR's estimation that 50% of passengers will use public transport to reach the facility. Plans are in place to establish at least 170 daily train services. Airside, 150 of 200 aircraft stands will benefit from boarding bridges and 699,654sq ft (65,000[m.sup.2]) of the terminal will be dedicated to retail units.
