Fitness forever.Youth is NOT wasted on the young. A new study finds that even octogenarians can enjoy improved health and fitness with regular exercise. The study, appearing in the Journal of Aging and Health, included 64 independent-living residents (average age 83.5) who were all sedentary sedentary /sed·en·tary/ (sed´en-tar?e) 1. sitting habitually; of inactive habits. 2. pertaining to a sitting posture. sedentary of inactive habits; pertaining to a fat, castrated or confined animal. at the start. Participants were assigned as·sign tr.v. as·signed, as·sign·ing, as·signs 1. To set apart for a particular purpose; designate: assigned a day for the inspection. 2. to one of three groups: resistance training, walking, or no exercise at all. Those in the two exercise groups worked out twice a week.
