Fitness and recreation grants awarded to Volunteers.


The non-profit Volunteers of America Volunteers of America, national nondenominational organization providing a wide variety of human services as part of a Christian ministry of service. Founded (1896) by Ballington and Maud Booth (see Booth, family) after their withdrawal from the Salvation Army, the , which provides human service programs and opportunities for communities and individuals, received $50,000 in grants from the Major League Baseball Players This list consists of Major League Baseball players, both past and current, who have a biographic article (members of the Baseball Hall of Fame are noted with a β). * Fitness programs to improve health, self-esteem and body image of girls by creating a fitness center with appropriate exercise equipment;

* Crosswalks program, which will increase recreational activities and purchase necessary exercise equipment for runaways and homeless youth; and

* Creating a physical education element in the Volunteers of America Juvenile Day Program.
