Fiterman Hall plans revealed.


The Borough of Manhattan Community College Founded in 1963, Borough of Manhattan Community College, or BMCC is one of six two-year colleges within the City University of New York (CUNY) system and the only one in Manhattan.  has released early drawing for a new Fiterman Hall. The new 400,000-s/f building will replace the current Fiterman Hall, which is scheduled to be remediated and deconstructed over the coming months. The current Fiterman Hall was heavily damaged by debris falling from the original 7 World Trade Center following the September 11 attacks September 11 attacks

"Fiterman Hall will be fully remediated then deconstructed," said Barbara Resnicow of The Borough of Manhattan Community College. "As soon as this work is complete and the site has been cleared, likely in late fall of 2007, work will begin on the replacement building."

The award-winning firm of Pei Cobb Freed Architects is designing the replacement building. The new Fiterman Hall will provide the Borough of Manhattan Community College with 74 new classrooms and labs and 129 faculty offices, in addition to a cafe, art gallery and substantial student lounge space. Funding for the new project will be provided by a combination of an insurance settlement and New York City New York City: see New York, city.
