, despite a drop off in issuance in the fourth quarter of 2004, the student loan ABS market completed another record year. Fitch-rated issuance volume for the year equaled roughly $59.7 billion, an increase of 16.5% over 2003 volume of $51.2 billion. Fitch expects volume to be strong again in 2005 but the rate of year-over-year increase to level off.

The newsletter also highlights several noteworthy transactions rated by Fitch's student loan ABS team in the fourth quarter and provides a review of the past year's activity in the sector.
