Members from the New England, Mid-Atlantic and South Atlantic Fishery
Management Councils will discuss recent conservation efforts and
management developments in their respective federal waters, and the
implications of recent rulings.

Dr. Rebecca Lent, National Marine Fisheries Services  10:30 -11:00 am

In her address, Dr. Lent will provide an overview on United States
fisheries, with special focus on issues currently facing the North
Atlantic fishing industry as well as current and proposed regulations.
A chance to hear, meet and ask questions to Dr. Lent, a long-time
fishing industry expert and former South West Director of Highly
Migratory Species.



New England Groundfish Zone: What's Next?          11:00 am- 12:30 pm

Despite Judge Kessler's recent decision to scale back on severe
restrictions for the New England groundfish fleet, hard times are far
from over for this fishery. Issues such as Amendment 13, individual
quotas, impacts on related businesses and financial assistance for
fishing communities still loom on the horizon. Leading industry groups
in the current groundfish process will address this crucial issue and
discuss what's in store for groundfishing.

IFQs: Right For New England?                         10:30 am - Noon

With the possible ending of the moratorium on IFQs, New England
fishermen worry more than any other region about what their fleets
will look like under this regime. How should "rights" be defined? Who
is eligible for shares and how should they be allocated? What about
transferability and consolidation? Hear industry panelists discuss
best management regimes for this fishery.
