Fiserv Announces 2005 Education Exchange College Grant Winners; Cash Awards Sponsored by Fiserv-owned ACCEL/Exchange Network.BROOKFIELD, Wis. -- Thirty-four members of the high school graduating Class of 2005 have been awarded a total of $50,000 in college grants thanks to the Fiserv-owned ACCEL/Exchange Network and its Education Exchange college grant program. The program, established in 1994, helps ACCEL/Exchange Network members recognize, honor and assist hardworking and academically talented students nationwide to further their education and prepare for their careers. Graduating seniors are selected from high schools across the country to share Education Exchange grant awards provided by the ACCEL/Exchange Network. From an initial pool of thousands of applicants, four $5,000 grants and 30 $1,000 grants are offered each year. The awards are based upon scholastic achievement, volunteerism and extracurricular activities, character and leadership, essay responses and financial need. This year's $5,000 grant recipients were Megan Boatright of Pace, Fla.; Rachel Kirklin of Merritt Island, Fla.; Emily McMillan of Pensacola, Fla.; and Robin Toler of Harlingen, Texas. Boatright, sponsored by Pen Air Federal Credit Union, is a graduate of Pace High School, where she was secretary of the National Honor Society The National Honor Society (NHS), established in 1921, is a recognition program for American high school students who show achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. and listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students Who's Who Among American High School Students is a web-site and publication (owned and managed by Educational Communications Inc.) that lists what it deems to be high school students "who have excelled in academics, extra-curricular activities and community service. . She was a National Merit Commended Student and member of the Anchor Club, Beta Club, Foreign Language Club, Literary Club, and 4-H Citizenship Club. Megan will pursue a degree in linguistics at Oxford College of Emory University The College is also host to a small Confederate Soldiers' Cemetery. Kirklin was sponsored by the Kennedy Space Center Kennedy Space Center (Cape Canaveral) U.S. launch site for manned space missions. She was class valedictorian, chorus historian and a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club. She has been active in the Girl Scouts and has volunteered extensively at a local nursing home. UF is home to 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes. . McMillan was also sponsored by Pen Air Federal Credit Union. She is a graduate of Woodham High School Woodham High School was a secondary school located in Pensacola, Florida. The high school was closed after nearly 42 years of operation in May of 2007. It is now known as Woodham Middle School. The school is named for Dr. William Jesse Woodham, Jr. , where she was listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students and was a member of the National Honor Society and National Honor Roll. She was a varsity member of the soccer, cross country, and swim and dive teams, served in the Student Government Association, and was president of the BETA Club. Emily is an active community volunteer and will pursue her degree in elementary education at the University of West Florida
Toler, sponsored by the Harlingen Area Teacher's Credit Union, is a graduate of Harlingen High School Harlingen High School is a high school located on 1201 E. Marshall Avenue in Harlingen, Texas and is part of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. HHS is the first of 2 public high schools in Harlingen. South, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, National Honor Roll and was listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. She was also the editor of the Hawkeye student newspaper, captain of the Spelling and Vocabulary Team, treasurer of the Key Club, and a United States Achievement Academy All-American Scholar.
