First-Ever Washington Seminar for Municipalities Interested in Citywide Wi-Fi; Introductory Address by Bill Schrier, Chief Technology Officer, City of Seattle.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SkyPilot Networks, CenturyTel, and Government Technology Magazine will host a seminar next week to help Mayors, City Managers, and other municipal decision makers learn how to bring wireless high-speed Internet networks for their citizens and businesses. Seattle's Chief Technology Officer, Bill Schrier, will discuss the City's efforts to expand broadband coverage to residents.

Representatives from Vail, Colorado, Aurora, Illinois, and CenturyTel will talk about their experiences in deploying citywide broadband networks. These mixed-use networks will provide free public Internet access as well as public works and public safety applications. Both municipal governments will save hundreds of thousands of dollars annually over existing wireless services and offers citizens and tourists free Wi-Fi access.
