Business Editors/High Tech Writers

CHESAPEAKE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2000

-- Society of Internet Appraisers Aimed at

Standardizing, Streamlining Online Appraising --

The first-ever, independent professional society of Internet appraisers -- the Association of Online Appraisers, Inc. (AOA AOA American Optometric Association; American Orthopsychiatric Association; American Osteopathic Association.
AOA 1 American Orthopaedic Association 2 American Osteopathic Association, see there
) -- announced today that it has adopted the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice can be thought of as the quality control standards applicable for appraisal analysis and reports in the United States and its territories.  (USPAP USPAP Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice ), put forth by the Appraisal Foundation of Washington, D.C., along with a code of ethics Code of Ethics can refer to:
  • Ethical code, a code of professional responsibility, noting what behaviors are "ethical".
  • Code of Ethics (band), a 90's Christian New Wave/Pop band
 for its members.

In an effort to standardize online appraisals, the newly-formed Association of Online Appraisers has already established online-specific report writing standards in keeping with the International Society of Appraisers (ISA (1) (Instruction Set Architecture) See instruction set.

(2) (Interactive Services Association) See Internet Alliance.

(3) (Internet Security and Acceleration) See .NET.
) guidelines, the largest association of educated and trained personal property appraisers in the United States.

The non-profit Association of Online Appraisers ( http://www.AOAonline.org ) has a two-fold mission, according to founding president Mark Stuart: to promote professionalism and ethical conduct in online appraising, and to help its member appraisers gain additional training and knowledge. Stuart, who is CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of CollectingChannel.com ( http://www.collectingchannel.com ), conceived of the organization as a natural outcropping of the professional online collecting community.

"By bringing all online appraisers under one professional umbrella of ethics and conduct, we help make the Internet a more convenient and professional place to do business," he said. Stuart points out that the Internet technology that creates a virtual appraisal environment also shrinks collecting geography. "Now, with the advent of the Internet, collectors seeking professional appraisals have an entire worldwide network of experts at their fingertips "Fingertips" is a 1963 number-one hit single recorded live by "Little" Stevie Wonder for Motown's Tamla label. Wonder's first hit single, "Fingertips" was the first live, non-studio recording to reach number-one on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in the United States.  -- the Association of Online Appraisers will connect collectors with an online appraiser A person selected or appointed by a competent authority or an interested party to evaluate the financial worth of property.

Appraisers are frequently appointed in probate and condemnation proceedings and are also used by banks and real estate concerns to determine the market
virtually anywhere who will adhere to very highest professional appraising standards."

The AOA will also act as an industry watchdog, alerting members to emerging issues concerning online appraisal practices; promoting interchange between the public and members, and establishing a codified cod·i·fy

set of standards to be used in all online appraisals. Membership in the AOA is open to any individual or group offering online appraisals, including appraisal practitioners, appraisal management companies, educators and related organizations.

The AOA is governed by a prestigious group of directors that includes CollectingChannel.com Chief Appraisal Officer Dave Maloney, author of Maloney's Antique & Collectibles Resource Directory, and the former host of PBS's popular Collecting Across America series. Maloney is an internationally known appraiser and former ISA officer and board member. Other AOA board members include: Karen S. Rabe, ISA CAPP, Certified ISA Appraiser; Stephen J. Abt, III - President, Artfact, Inc.; Kathy Kamnikar, President, Antique Networking, Inc.; Mark A.
