First woman soldier to resist.

On November 17, SPC Katherine Jashinski of the Texas Army National Guard became the first woman in the military to make a public declaration of her resistance to the Iraq War Iraq War: see under Persian Gulf Wars.. She enlisted three years ago, and in 2004 she requested conscientious objector conscientious objector n. a person who refuses to serve in the military due to religious or strong philosophical views against war or killing. Refusing to answer a draft call is a federal felony, but when a person's religious beliefs are long-standing and consistent (as with the Quakers) then the objection to service is excused. Conscientious objectors may be required to perform some non-violent work like driving an ambulance. status.

The Army has denied her request for CO status, but she is appealing that decision. In the meantime, she has refused deployment to Iraq and she expects to be court-martialed.
