Striker Cox, who has struggled for first team opportunities despite Albion's recent lack of goals, looked eager to impress from the off and went on to put in a lively overall display.

And despite a defensive error handing Port Vale a goal nine minutes from the end of normal time, Sam Mantom's free-kick into the area three minutes into injury time was headed back across the goal by Wood before being bundled in by Martis.
