First scalable small batch mixer.

This tiny mixer for batches as small as 10 grams is actually a 1-in.-diam., 2:1 L/D "extruder" with a vent, but no barrel. Randcastle Extrusion Systems Inc. in Cedar Grove, N.J., developed a prototype using one section of its new Recirculator screw element, a fluted mixer. Randcastle believes this is the first lab mixer that could be scaled up directly to a single-screw compounder. The Recirculator Batch Mixer will be introduced at the Polymer Films and Fibers Symposium 2004 in Montreal this month and is available commercially.
