First nylon/acrylate TPVs are now commercial. (Materials).Zeon Chemicals L.P. in Louisville, Ky., has commercialized the first two grades in its Zeotherm family of thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) based on Zeon's HyTemp polyacrylate (ACM (Association for Computing Machinery, New York, www.acm.org) A membership organization founded in 1947 dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of information processing. In addition to awards and publications, ACM also maintains special interest groups (SIGs) in the computer field. ) rubber in a nylon matrix (see PT, Jan. '03, p. 24). These are said to be the first TPVs that can survive continuous exposure to automotive oils, transmission fluids, and greases at 150 C (302 F) under-hood temperatures. They also perform in the cold at -40 C. The first two grades are Zeotherm 100-70B and 110-70B. They differ in compressive properties but both have 70 to 80 Shore A hardness, tensile strength in the range of 1300 psi, and elongation around 294%. They are black, but a range of colors is available. Price is $6/lb. Zeon plans future grades based on its Zetpol hydrogenated nitrile (HNBR HNBR Hydrogenated Acrylonitrile-Butadiene Rubber ) and Hydrin epichlorohydrin ep·i·chlo·ro·hy·drin n.
