First maximum security unit for women offenders opens in Truro. (General).


TRURO -- Solicitor General of Canada The Solicitor General of Canada was a position in the Canadian ministry from 1892 to 2005. The position was based on the Solicitor General in the British system and was originally designated as an officer to assist the Minister of Justice.  Wayne Easter Arnold Wayne Easter, PC, MP, Dip.l.T., LL.D (h.c.) (born June 22, 1949 in North Wiltshire, Prince Edward Island) is a Canadian politician.

Easter is a current member of the Liberal Party of Canada in the Canadian House of Commons, representing the riding of Malpeque, Prince
, recently opened a Unit for maximum-security offenders at Nova Institution for Women in this city. The unit is similar to those in three other women's institutions across Canada Across Canada was an afternoon program that formerly aired on The Weather Network. The segment ran from early 1999 until mid 2002. The show ran from 3:00PM ET until 7:00 PM ET.  which will soon become operational.

The Nova Institution is a multi-level security institution for federally sentenced women. It has a capacity to accommodate up to 54 women in its general population of medium and minimum-security inmates. Nova's Secure Unit will accommodate up to 10 maximum-security inmates.

Other Secure Units will open this year at the Joliette Institution (QC), the Edmonton Institution (AL) and the Grand Valley Institution (ON).

In the Pacific Region, Correctional Service of Canada The Correctional Service of Canada (French: Service correctionnel du Canada), or CSC, is a Canadian government agency responsible for the incarceration and rehabilitation of convicted criminal offenders.  has undertaken to convert one of its facilities into a regional institution for women offenders by the spring of 2004. Currently, federally sentenced women are housed in a provincial (BC) facility. 506-851-2833
