First human heart transplant. (The Winter Times).


On December 3, 1967, South African surgeon Christiaan Barnard Bar·nard (bärnrd, bär-närd), Christiaan Neethling 1923-2001. performed the first heart transplant on a human. Although his patient died 18 days after the surgery, this milestone led to many medical advancements. Today heart transplants are successful in helping people with heart problems live longer.
