, opened The Fairview Family Health Network, the first Family Health Network in Toronto.

Fairview will serve more than 13,500 people. The new network's nine doctors join 85 physicians in nine other family health networks across Ontario and 177 more doctors enrolled in 14 Primary Care Network pilot sites, serving approximately 279,000 patients throughout Ontario. The Fairview Family Health Network, also doubles as a teaching site for University of Toronto Research at the University of Toronto has been responsible for the world's first electronic heart pacemaker, artificial larynx, single-lung transplant, nerve transplant, artificial pancreas, chemical laser, G-suit, the first practical electron microscope, the first cloning of T-cells,  family medicine residents.

"Family Health Networks mean 24 hour access to physician care for patients while allowing doctors a flexible lifestyle and a more stable income than they would have under a fee-for-service model," said Health Minister Tony Clement. The networks are compensated on a capitation CAPITATION. A poll tax; an imposition which is yearly laid on each person according to his estate and ability.

 basis.

Ontario physicians have been cautious about signing up for the FHN'S and the province is far from achieving its goal of having most doctors in these groups. 416-325-7600
