") announced today that Dr. Bill B. May, 59, a founder, and for 22 years chairman and chief executive officer of ARGOSystems, which was sold to The Boeing Company in 1987, has been appointed to the board of directors of the company.

As a non-employee director, Dr. May assumes one of two seats made available last week by the resignation of two management directors to facilitate greater independent outside director influence.

Dr. May, who holds his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, brings 37 years of electronics experience to his new role with FPN. In 1969, he and a group of Stanford University colleagues founded ARGOSystems, a world leader in electronic warfare technologies including systems for communications reconnaissance and active countermeasures for ship protection. Under his leadership, the company grew to over $100 million in sales and over 1,350 employees before its acquisition by The Boeing Company in 1987. From 1987 to 1992, Dr. May served as a corporate vice president of Boeing and continued as chairman of the ARGOSystems subsidiary. In 1993, Dr. May became chief executive officer of NXX NXX Network Numbering Exchange (in North American Numbering Plan)  Corporation.

Since his retirement from Boeing in 1992, Dr. May has expanded his advisory and director roles focusing on mergers, corporate partnering, software licensing, and strategic business and marketing issues in the high technology sector.

Dr. May is an active member of the National Academy of Engineering, the Association of Old Crows The Association of Old Crows is a nonprofit international professional organization specializing in electronic warfare, information operations, and related topics. The organization's headquarters are located in Alexandria, Virginia.  and Sigma Xi. He has also been a consultant to the Packard Commission and to the Defense Science Board Summer Study on Commercial Procurement in addition to service on the Cal Poly School of Business Advisory Council. He previously has been a member of the American Electronics Association's Government Business Committee, The President's Roundtable, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and the National Association of Corporate Directors.

He continues to serve as a member of the board of directors of Delfin Systems Inc., Tradec Inc., NXX Corporation, the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, at Rapid City; state supported; coeducational; chartered 1885, opened 1887 as Dakota School of Mines, renamed 1943.  Foundation and The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, and has also has served as a director of the American Electronics Association The American Electronics Association (now known as AeA) is a nationwide non-profit trade association that represents all segments of the technology industry in the United States. .

Dr. May received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1957 and 1958 respectively and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1964. He is the author or co-author of over nine publications, including the study "A Statistical Analysis of Multichannel Using two or more paths for transmission or processing. It can refer to a variety of architectures including (1) multiple I/O channels between the CPU and peripheral devices, (2) multiple wires in a cable, (3) multiple "logical" channels within a single wire or fiber or (4) multiple  Systems with Applications to Broadband Microwave Frequency Discriminators" which is the definitive paper on the noise performance of a widely used intercept receiver.

He has been the recipient of the Guy March Medal from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, the Wall Street Transcript's Bronze Award for chief executive Aerospace-Defense Electronics - Best Management, and the Association of Old Crows Executive Management Medal. He has been honored by the National Academy of Engineering and Eta Kappa Nu Eta Kappa Nu (ΗΚΝ) is a national electrical and computer engineering honor society in the United States founded in October 1904 by Maurice L. Carr at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. , as well as being a Centennial Alumnus ALUMNUS, civil law. A child which one has nursed; a foster child.
