: FDC FDC - Floppy Disk Controller ) announced today the introduction of a proprietary point of sale terminal that offers enhanced functionality and expandability utilizing the Microsoft Windows CE 4.2 operating system. The First Data[R] FD-100 terminal has the flexibility to support dial-up or Internet Protocol See Internet and TCP/IP.

The FD-100 offers enhanced transaction speeds along with ease of use and implementation for small and medium-sized merchants and will replace the company's currently deployed Linkpoint[R] AIO See all-in-one. [R] terminal.

Windows CE .NET superseded Windows CE 3.0.  solution, First Data was able to leverage a software platform with low life cycle costs and a quick time to market, to seamlessly support the applications, hardware and peripherals retail organizations want to use."

9000 certified manufacturing environment, the FD-100 includes an integrated thermal printer, touch-screen technology and is off-the-shelf multi-language capable. The FD-100's five USB ports enable merchants to address future payment enhancements and link peripheral devices such as PINpads, check and wireless readers to the terminal. Each unit also comes standard with two serial ports and a 56K dial-up port.

With 64 megabytes of memory and IP application download speeds of six to 10 seconds, the FD-100 features substantially greater memory and faster communications than most POS (1) See point of sale and packet over SONET.

The unit is lightweight (less than 2 pounds) and has a footprint small enough to fit virtually any retail location (approximately 9" by 5").
