First Citizens To Offer 24-Hour Live Operator Telephone Banking

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Customers of First Citizens Bank can bank by telephone -- talking to live customer service representatives -- 24 hours a day beginning January 20.

The bank has announced it will extend the hours during which live customer service representatives are available to make banking available around the clock. Live customer service representatives are currently available about 16 hours a day, and a 24 hour automated account information line has been in operation for more than six years.

Information and services that will be available 24 hours a day includes data on balances and cleared checks, and the ability to transfer funds between accounts.

Customer service representatives trained to open new accounts and accept loan applications over the telephone will continue to serve customers from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. Those hours will not change when the 24-hour, live operator service becomes available on January 20.

"Our telephone banking service handles nearly 70,000 calls per month," said Call Center Director Mark Coble. "Most people are at work during traditional banking hours. It's clear that a significant number of people want to bank by telephone because it's very convenient. Making the service available 24 hours a day is a response to our customers' needs."

The enhanced telephone banking options are part of First Citizens' family of advanced banking services call First Citizens Direct. Under First Citizens Direct, the bank is already offering Business Express, a PC-based banking product for small businesses, and Data Net, a product for mid-sized companies, as well as home-based on-line banking in North Carolina. On-line banking options include the ability to monitor account balances, receive information on cleared checks, transfer funds and pay bills, among other capabilities.

Raleigh, NC-based First Citizens Bank operates more than 300 branches serving 186 towns and cities in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Its world wide web page is located at http://www.firstcitizens.com/.
