Liberty, already established as a premier paint and animation software package running on the SGI (SGI, Sunnyvale, CA, www.sgi.com) A manufacturer of workstations and servers, founded in 1982 by Jim Clark. The company was founded as Silicon Graphics, Inc., but changed to its acronym in 1999. (R) platform, has made its debut on the Windows(R) NT platform. Liberty NT makes award winning Liberty graphics power accessible to Windows NT users, providing high-end graphics capability formerly available only on more costly workstations.

"We already have a Chyron iNFiNiT! (R) at the station, and we were looking at new paintbox systems with advanced features that could easily network with the iNFiNiT! as well as our other systems," said Craig Williams, Art Director at KMAX KMAX Kevin Max (musician) . "It is a big plus that Liberty can run on the NT platform, as it can network with the other NT systems already here. Networking is extremely important for the design department - it is essential that the systems can talk to each other - and Liberty NT is ready to go."

"We had looked at a several systems, and found that Liberty NT gives us more bang for the buck," added Jack Davis, Chief Engineer at KMAX. "It came out of the box, worked right away, and looks beautiful. We will use it for news graphics, promotional graphics and in-house commercial production. In addition to the iNFiNiT!, we'll be networking Liberty to a Mac(R) workstation and an Avid editing system. It will fit in well and meets our needs."

Liberty NT features sophisticated paint, image processing, color correction, morphing, motion tracking, rotoscoping Creating animated characters by tracing an action movie with real actors frame by frame. Performed via the computer today, rotoscoping was originally accomplished in the early 1900s by projecting each movie frame onto a frosted glass easel, from which the illustrator traced and redrew the , masking, effects, multiple file format support and film compositing capabilities that have made it one of the industry's most innovative graphics tools. New to Liberty products are 3:2 pulldown for film-video conversion, single channel Cineon(R) selections, new dust buster brush, easy access to multiple processors, audio scratch track, Ultimatte(R) and MetaCreations(R) plug-ins (SGI platform), and Adobe Photoshop(R) plug-ins (Windows NT platform).

The Liberty NT package was sold by Snader Digital Resources out of Sausalito, CA, and was bundled with an Intergraph TDZ GL2 workstation and an Accom(R) 2Xtreme(tm) DDR.
