Bennett's Smokehouse & Saloon restaurants are a result of a partnership between WSMP and Bennett's Bar-B-Que, Inc., of Denver, CO. Management personnel for the Beckley restaurant completed a special training program in Denver prior to the opening of the new unit. This restaurant brought the number of Bennett's open under the co-franchisor agreement to four, with the other three being in Tennessee and North Carolina North Carolina, state in the SE United States. "We're very pleased with our association with our new franchisee, Bennett's Point, Inc.," said Kenneth L. Moser, WSMP's Senior Vice President of Restaurants and Franchising. "The principals of this group -- Greg A. Childers, Riley Robbins and Harry E. Wright -- are new to WSMP and they are very enthusiastic about the Bennett's concept."

The new Bennett's restaurant occupies an 8,500-square-foot structure that was remodeled and retrofitted to reflect the Texas-style roadhouse theme of the chain.

WSMP comprises a restaurant division and three food processing divisions. Restaurant operations include 33 company-owned and 53 franchised restaurants in eight states, with these including Western Steer(R) Family Restaurants or Western Steer(R) Steak, Buffet and Bakery restaurants, Prime Sirloin(R) Buffet, Bakery and Steak restaurants, Mom 'n' Pop's(R) Buffet & Bakery restaurants, and Bennett's Smokehouse & Saloon restaurants.

The company's food processing units include the Mom 'n' Pop's(R) Bakery Division, which has the capacity to produce more than four million microwaveable sandwiches weekly; a new Home Meal Replacement Division, which supplies refrigerated re·frig·er·ate
