First APG-73 radar delivery for Malaysian Air Force F/A-18.

Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 1996--A ceremony for the delivery of an APG-73 radar for the Malaysian Air Force F/A-18 Hornet was held recently at Hughes Aircraft Co.'s Radar and Communications Systems facility.

The radar will be installed at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace in St. Louis later this summer in the first of the eight Hornets ordered by Malaysia.

The APG-73 radar is an upgrade of the combat-proven APG-65 system operational in F/A-18s flown by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, the air forces of Canada, Australia, Spain and Kuwait, in German Luftwaffe F-4F Improved Combat Efficiency aircraft and in AV-8B Harrier II+ for the U.S. Marines and Italian and Spanish navies.

Other international customers ordering Hornets equipped with the APG-73 include Finland and Switzerland.

The APG-73 incorporates advanced concepts and components that provide growth potential via increased throughput and memory, improved reliability and easier maintenance without any increase in size or weight over the APG-65.

The APG-73 radar is produced under contract from McDonnell Douglas by Hughes Aircraft's Radar and Communications Systems, a unit of Hughes Electronics Corp. The earnings of Hughes Electronics are used to calculate the earnings per share attributable to GMH GMH General Motors Holden's  (NYSE NYSE
