UK-based software applications developer First 4 Internet has introduced a new technology for preventing the copying of CDs.

Extended Copy Protection (XCP) is a software package developed by the British company First 4 Internet, (which on 20 November 2006, changed its name to Fortium Technologies Ltd -
 (XCP) is available in two formats: XCP1 Burn Protect for CDR (1) See CD-R and extension.

(2) (Call Detail Reporting) See call accounting.

(3) (Common Data Rate) A standard sampling rate for digital video for 480i and 576i systems. The rate is 13.5 MHz. See ITU-R BT.
 pre-release production and XCP2 Press Protect for manufactured CDs.

First 4 Internet has claimed that the XCP technology can help protect the rights of record labels and artists and prevent the unauthorised copying of CD content.

No pricing information was disclosed.
