Jetro Cash & Carry, a wholesale grocery, foodservice and catering supply warehouse, Belmet Products, a metal stamping company and Singalli Collision, an auto body shop, have all significantly reduced their energy usage after receiving significantly low-cost or free lighting upgrades through Operation Kill-A-Watt.

The combined power reduction resulting from the upgrades provided to these three Brooklyn businesses equals 1,171,870 kilowatt kilowatt: see watt.  hours--an amount equivalent to the power used by over 100 average residences, permanently eliminated from the New York City power grid.

"We're using much less energy and we're glad to be doing our part to prevent blackouts and brownouts in the area," said Richard Kirschner, Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The annual dollar savings for Jetro Cash & Carry is projected at a whopping $125,177, with savings being immediately reflected in their monthly Con Edison bills. Operation Kill-A-Watt paid for 100% of the lighting upgrades performed for Belmet Products and Singalli Collision.

Belmet Products is projected to receive an annual savings of $5.672 on their energy bills, while PES calculated that Singalli Collision will receive $2,325 in annual energy savings. PES was contracted by Con Edison for this exclusive program to reduce demand on the City's power grid in targeted neighborhoods and load areas. This past summer, major black-outs and brown-outs plagued Queens and other boroughs throughout the City.

Programs like this reduce peak demand which can help avoid power interruptions.
