Firefox Falters -- Netscape Loses Market Share, says Janco's IT Productivity Center.

PARK CITY, Utah -- Janco's IT Productivity Center has just released its July Browser Market Share White Paper. The major findings include that Firefox Quite an Impact
Firefox has received rave reviews and caused much notoriety. Within a few months of its release, millions of people downloaded it. Many view it as a safer alternative to Internet Explorer (IE), which is constantly being attacked. Although Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP made IE more secure, those enhancements are not available for earlier versions of Windows, and nothing stops hackers from inventing new attacks.
maintained its No. 2 browser position but has lost momentum. Netscape has released version 8; however, it continues to lose market share and dropped from 4th place to 5th place. New in this white paper are recommendations on which browsers to use and not use. A summary of Janco's browser market share data can be found on the IT Productivity Center (ITPC ITPC - Indiana Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation

The top five browser market share rankings are: 1 - Microsoft's IE -- 85.07%; 2 - Firefox -- 8.83%; 3 - Mozilla -- 3.31%; 4 - AOL -- 0.81%; 5 - Netscape -- 0.75%. The CEO of Janco Associates Inc., M. Victor Janulaitis, said, "The positive glow on Firefox was dulled in April with the identification of some security gaps in Firefox. While still maintaining its No. 2 position, Firefox seems to have lost its momentum." He added, "Netscape's release of version 8 has become a non-event. According to our data, Netscape continues to lose market share."

Janco has collected consistent data on browser activity since September 1997. The data is collected from commercial sites with a focus on business-to-business activity. Janco has more than 350,000 data points for each month of the second quarter of 2005 as it continues to expand its client base. Janco anticipates that it will issue an update to its market share data at the end of the third quarter of this year.

The IT Productivity Center is the information portal for business executives who manage the Information Technology function. Janulaitis said, "The ITPC portal provides many Information Technology management productivity tools to executives and IT professionals. The portal has templates and reports covering Sarbanes-Oxley to Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) and Disaster Recovery Planning."

Janco Associates, in addition to its consulting practice, maintains several other Web portals, including http://www.e-janco.com, http://www.itproductivity.org and http://www.it-toolkits.com.
