Fire crew to climb for record bid; CHARITY.A TEAM of Irish firefighters will today attempt to break a world record - and raise money for children with autism autism (ô`tĭzəm), developmental disability resulting from a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain. It is characterized by the abnormal development of communication skills, social skills, and reasoning. .The bid will see 10 firefighters scale a ladder a minimum of 46 times per hour if they are to break the world record currently held by New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. for a 24-hour ladder climb. The event will take place outside the Debenham's store on O'Connell Street in Limerick city from 4pm. All of the money raised will be donated to the Red Hill school for young people with autism in Patrickswell, Co Limerick. Fireman Paul Knapp said: "It will be a real test of our endurance... but it's for a very worthy cause." |
