Finlay Forest Products Extends Shutdown.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1997-- Finlay Forest Industries Inc. announces an extension to the two week temporary market shutdown previously announced on June 10, 1997.

The announcement lengthens the current Site I sawmill shutdown by one week to July 25 and in addition, will include the Site I planermill.

Approximately 190 employees will be affected by this temporary shutdown.

These shutdowns are necessary because of higher than normal lumber inventories and the continued market deterioration, both in the U.S. and Japan.

Finlay Forest operates an integrated complex composed of two sawmills (Site I and Site II) with a combined capacity of 350,000 (M)FBM and a papermill with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes, located in Mackenzie, B.C.

Finlay Forest Industries Inc. is jointly owned by Slocan Forest Products Ltd. (TSE:SFF) and Donohue Inc.
