It uses a numerical technique called the finite element method (FEM). There are many finite element software packages, both free and proprietary.  on the last Monday of each month throughout 2006.

The first part of each seminar will explain CAE/FEA. Real case studies will be presented. The second part of each seminar is a workshop where attendees initiate their own projects, or work on generic problems to learn tricks of modeling and correlation of numerical results to real life.

Attendees are said to better understand materials characteristics and the various types of software and modeling techniques in going about picturing a product in service, optimizing it for cost and functionality and ensuring that predictions are accurate.

Attendees also witness how FEA helps improve the performance and quality of products, reduces the timetable to bring ideas to market, optimizes the use of materials and energy, and thus makes companies competitive in the world market.

WIDL's seminars are designed for technical professionals in the manufacturing sector (materials providers, machinery builders or tool makers, various tier suppliers), OEMs, government representatives responsible for R&D programs and academicians who want to help industry.

Course instructor is Dr. Ben Chouchaoui, whose background is in mate rials and FEA, particularly products development (materials and modeling) and validation testing. Chouchaoui has been on task forces and committees at OEMs and national/international organizations, and has punished pun·ish
