Spray Guns

The new HVLP spray guns from Apollo Sprayers have a body made from polished pressure die-cast aluminum. All remaining parts are made of stainless steel. The slim ergonomic design provides balance and easy to gripping, reducing wrist fatigue, the company says.

Binks Mfg. offers the Mach SL series of HVLP air spray guns. The RWH Mach 1SL HVLP operates at more than 65% transfer efficiency, while the Mach 2SL HVLP, hydraulically assisted to 1,000 psi, pre-atomizes pressurized fluid through a constrictive carbide nozzle.

IC&S offers Asturo-Maves HVLP, conventional air and turbo spray guns. IC&S says the guns are low maintenance, have high application speed and are gun-washer compatible.

ITW DeVilbiss offers OMX, an ergonomic spray gun weighing 12 oz. The gun has an ergonomic grip, hose inlet options, ergonomic controls and three triggering positions to allow operators to get into proper position to spray. Its trigger pull force ranges from less than 1 lb to 2 lbs.

Kremlin Inc. offers the MX Airmix gun, designed for coating surfaces such as metal, wood and plastic. The gun offers stainless steel fluid passages that reduce material and solvent waste.

Finishing Systems

The Cefla Ecosprayer finishing system, offered by Stiles Machinery Inc., is designed to provide quality finishing at high-production speeds. Features include: four circuits with lacquer recycle; guns supporting the trolley's oscillation; workpiece-reading barrier with 60 or 120 photodiodes; and an independent power control cabinet with a turn on/off switch for the sprayer.

The Hymmen ProfiCoater is a single-operator lacquering line suitable for small- and medium-sized companies. Lacquer dries within seconds, enabling further processing immediately. Hymmen says it is solvent-free and environmentally safe. The ProfiCoater has short cleaning and startup times, the company adds.

The Falcioni Unospray 1300 is an automatic sprayer for doors, cabinet doors, panels and more. The machine, introduced by Derda at Interbimall, features a central reciprocating unit, self-cleaning 1,300mm belt, lacquer-collecting system and drying extraction.

Derda also offers the Renzo Borgonova Model SM93 spraying machine. The SM93 was designed for spray painting profiles, staves, frames and splines and can be used with water-based material and a wide variety of other finishing materials.

Giardina's Dualtech 6 is an automatic sprayer that uses the new wet-on-wet recovery system, allowing the user to capture overspray on the 6-ft belt and squeegee the material for reuse. Giardina also offers the Robotech GS25 CNC roller coater. It uses Windows-based software and features automatic dialup for remote diagnostics, spray patterns, cycles etc. Both sprayers debuted at Interbimall.

Finishing Materials

Sherwin-Williams' Chemical Coatings Group offers a variety of environmentally-friendly stains, sealers, lacquers and varnishes which comply with the National Standards for HAPs emissions The company says all SherWood Water Reducible wood finishes, as well as many of its vinyl sealers, lacquers, varnishes and surfacers, meet the new HAPs regulations.

Vitricolor Stone Finish is a spray-applied, simulated stone, quartz aggregate finish in a 100% acrylic binder. The product, offered by Vitricon Inc., can be used for indoor or outdoor applications and can be applied over masonry, stucco, precast or cast-in-place concrete, cement block, gypsum sheeting and other approved substrates.

Colonial Bronze Co. has added 11 new satin matte finishes to its line of surfaces for cabinet hardware and bath accessories. The new finishes include Matte Satin Brass, Matte Antique Brass, Matte Satin Bronze, Matte Oil Rubbed Bronze, Matte Antique Copper and Matte Satin Nickel. The company says all its finishes are protected by a lifetime guarantee against tarnishing.

M.L. Campbell says its now WoodSong II Hi-Performance stain base was designed to be tinted with both Huls 844 colorants and P&L tinters, yielding deep, rich colors. Color and grain emphasis can be achieved by varying Lite length of dry time between application and wiping.

UV Coatings Limited's Z-VOC coatings are one-component, solvent-free coatings that produce no airborne VOCs, thus eliminating VOC-related fire, health and hazardous waste concerns, the company says. The Z-VOC coatings can be used on any surface requiring a protective finish including wood, metal, stone and plastic, and can be applied in any conventional manner including spray, brush, dip, roll and curtain.

Famowood's Super Stain, Sanding Sealer and Super Lac are waterborne finishes for a three-step wood finishing application and are available from Eclectic Products Inc. Super Stain, a sprayable, brushable wiping stain, is available in a variety of colors, is fast-drying and provides good clarity and adhesion, the company says. Sanding Sealer helps protect against water and other damaging elements. Super Lac provides a non-yellowing, clear finish.

Becker Acroma Inc. offers a wide variety of high-solid low VOC, HAPs-compliant/HAPs-free coatings, formaldehyde-free coatings, UV cured coatings and waterborne coatings.

Spray Booths & Filters

The Coral pressurized cabins from Atlantic Machinery consist of one or more water veils and dry varnished cabins, an air integration filtering roof, a pressurization unit and a control panel. As shown at Interbimall, the varnishing cabins pull in the contaminated air loaded with overspray through the front panel and discharge it in filtered form via the centrifugal fan.

DeVilbiss Spray Booth Products has introduced Pro-Clean Dry Filter Booths which provide efficiency and productivity while protecting workers and the environment, the company says. The booth is made of rigid 18-gauge galvanized rolled-edge panels. Class I Div. 2 fluorescent light fixtures provide illumination, while the flexible top/rear exhaust is powered by a TEFC 3-phase motor.

Chemco Manufacturing Co. has introduced the Perma-Clean filter cartridges, constructed of Gore-Tex expanded polyetrafluoroethylene membrane and designed specifically for powder coating applications. The use of Perma-Clean cartridges results in greater powder transfer efficiency, increased booth productivity and fewer filter changeouts, the company says.

VOC/Fume Control Systems

Air Handling Systems manufactures dust and fume collection components for a variety of commercial and industrial customers. The company's line of spiral pipe, fittings and flexible hose along with components such as elbows, spun reducers, duct silencers and blastgates can be seen in a new catalog available from the company. The catalog also contains information on designing and installing dust systems.

Megtech Systems' new Millennium regenerative thermal oxidation system is specifically designed for low-air-flow applications. The Millennium is designed to achieve VOC destruction rates up to 99% with 95% nominal thermal efficiency. According to Megtech, the new system makes regenerative thermal oxidation affordable for smaller-volume applications.

Anguil Environmental Systems Inc. has combined Rotor Concentrator and Oxidizer Technologies to achieve cost-effective VOC capture and destruction for high volume, low concentration process streams, the company says. Anguil Concentrator/Oxidizer systems are available in modular units through turnkey systems.

Finishing Ovens

Industrial Heating and Finishing Co. says it is prepared to meet the needs of companies that manufacture and finish wood products by supplying them with equipment such as 3-D or flatline UV curing systems, gas or electric infrared ovens, convection or high-mass ovens, environmental rooms, spray booths, vacuum coaters, roll coaters and air make-up units.

Makor USA's FT/IR catalytic drying oven combines high velocity air and catalytic panels in a flameless system. Natural gas forced through a catalyst oxidizes below flashpoint to produce infrared energy at lower temperatures and longer wavelengths for easier absorption by water molecules. Thus, the heat is concentrated on the paint, not on the wood, the company says.
