:FNSR), a technology pioneer in gigabit fiber-optic solutions for high-speed data and telecommunications networks, today announced plans to demonstrate a 40 Gb/s transponder at Asia's largest fiber optical communication exhibition, Fiber Optics fiber optics, transmission of digitized messages or information by light pulses along hair-thin glass fibers. Each fiber is surrounded by a cladding having a high index of refractance so that the light is internally reflected and travels the length of the fiber  Expo (FOE) 2006, held this week in Tokyo, Japan. Finisar will also showcase its 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP SFP Small Form-factor Pluggable (optical transceiver module)
SFP Société Française de Physique (French Physics Society; Paris)
Sfp Svenska Folkpartiet (Finnish: Swedish People~s Party)
) optical transceiver for Storage Area Network (SAN) applications. Both demonstrations will take place at booth #51-002 at Tokyo Big Site in Japan.

Already qualified by a number of telecom equipment companies, Finisar's recently acquired 40 Gb/s transponder provides an OC-768 compliant interface for use in systems such as core routers and SONET/SDH transmission equipment. Finisar's 40 Gb/s transponder has passed the stringent telecommunications qualification requirements outlined by Telcordia in GR-468-CORE and is currently shipping in production.

The Finisar 8 Gb/s transceiver is compatible with the emerging optical standards within the ANSI/INCITS T11 committee. The first to demonstrate this technology last year, Finisar's 8 Gb/s transceiver is ideal for use in a wide variety of storage network applications including Host Bus Adapters (HBAs), Fibre Channel switches Major manufacturers of Fibre Channel switches are: Brocade, Cisco, McData and Qlogic.
  • Brocade:
  • Switches: 5000, 4900, 2400, 2800, 3800, 3900, 4100, 200E
  • Directors: 12000, 24000 and 48000
 and storage systems.

Conference attendees are also invited to attend a conference presentation by Joseph Young, Senior Vice President and General Manager of optics at Finisar. The presentation will cover the evolution and market acceptance of the four different 10 Gb/s optical form factors (XENPAK, X2, XPAK XPAK Expansion Pack  and XFP XFP 10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable Module
XFP Extra-Fine-Pitch
XFP Ten Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable
). The presentation will take place on Thursday, January 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m in the Tower Building, Tokyo Big Site.

FOE 2006 will take place on January 18-20, 2006 at Tokyo Big Site in Japan. For more information please visit www.finisar.com. Individuals interested in learning more about Finisar's 40 Gb/s transponder and 8 Gb/s SFP transceiver products are encouraged to visit booth #51-002.
