Finisar intros OC-48 long-reach SFP optical transceivers with ADP receiver.

Finisar Corporation (Nasdaq: FNSR), a technology developer in gigabit fiber optic solutions for high-speed data and telecommunication networks, announced recently that it is introducing a Small Form Factor SONET OC-48 Long Range (LR) optical transceiver, the FTRJ1621. This transceiver uses 1550nm DFB lasers and APD receiver technology, and is designed for 80 km SONET OC-48 LR-2 (SDH STM L-16.2) and 110 km Gigabit Ethernet applications.

The FTRJ1621 is available in the pluggable SFP form factor, which includes an internally powered APD receiver as well as Finisar's "bail" latching mechanism. They support Finisar's "SmartSFP" digital diagnostics and monitoring functions, which are accessed through a 2-pin serial bus fully compatible with Serial ID as defined by the SFP MSA. These digital diagnostic functions, which are being standardized by the SFF Committee under SFF-8472, provide calibrated, absolute real time measurements of the laser bias current, transmitted optical power, received optical power, internal transceiver temperature and the supply voltage. Digital diagnostic functionality allows telecommunication and data communications companies to implement reliable performance monitoring of the optical link in a very accurate and cost-effective way.
