WEATHERMAN Paul Hudson ordered a fine day when he opened a new state-of-the-art ward at Holme Valley Memorial Hospital.
And luckily there was no sign of showers when the BBC Yorkshire presenter unveiled the pounds 2m intermediate care ward in Holmfirth.
Maple Ward used to be housed in the old part of the community hospital before being recently moved to the newlyrefurbished wing.
Hospital bosses have described the new ward environment as the perfect match for the first-class health care provided there.
Construction on the ward was delayed earlier this year when protected pipistrelle pipistrelle: see bat. bats were found nesting in the roof space.
Work re-started in the spring, with bat boxes installed in the hospital grounds to house the tiny creatures.
The new accommodation has been a big hit with patients and staff who said they were thrilled that Yorkshire man Paul was on hand to unveil a plaque to mark the occasion.
Sheila Dilks, director of patient care for Kirklees Primary Care Trust, said: "Holme Valley Memorial Hospital has provided excellent services over many years for local people, but for much of the time it has been in less than ideal surroundings.
"Today however, I am proud that as commissioners we have been able to develop this fantastic new facility.
"I wish to thank all the staff who have provided services here and who have led the way in driving these changes forward."
Holme Valley Memorial Hospital provides intermediate inpatient care inpatient care Managed care Services delivered to a Pt who needs physician care for > 24 hrs in a hospital for people from across Kirklees.
There is also a day surgery unit and outpatient clinics on the site in Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth.
The hospital is being refurbished as part of a National Health Service drive.
