WE ADDED OUR SEARCH TOOL TO THE WEBSITE IN AUG 06.

A MAJOR FEATURE OF THE SEARCH TOOL IS ITS CLEAN DESIGN.

THE SEARCH PAGE IS SHOWN IN THE FIGURE BELOW.

THE SEARCH TOOL ALLOWS READERS TO SEARCH FOR WORDS, NOMENCLATURE nomenclature /no·men·cla·ture/ (no´men-kla?cher) a classified system of names, as of anatomical structures, organisms, etc.

binomial nomenclature
, NSNS NSNS National Security News Service
NSNS No Shirt No Shoes
, TM AND MODEL NUMBERS ... VIRTUALLY ANY TERM PRINTED IN THE MAGAZINE.

ALL THE PS PDF FILES See PDF.  FROM 2000 FORWARD ARE SEARCHABLE.

[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]

WE PURPOSELY DIDN'T INCLUDE ISSUES PRIOR TO 2000 BECAUSE THAT INFO ISN'T AS UP-TO-DATE.

THIS IS AGE DISCRIMINATION!

HELPFUL HINTS NOT ONLY PROVIDES THE HINTS FOUND IN THIS ARTICLE, BUT A SHORT POWERPOINT PRESENTATION ALSO WALKS YOU THROUGH THE SEARCH TOOL'S FEATURES.

IF YOU CLICK ON ALL YOU CAN SCROLL THROUGH ALL THE RESULTS.

[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]

THE MOST CURRENT ARTICLES ARE LISTED FIRST, AND TITLE LINES ARE LINKED TO THEIR ARTICLES.

THE SUMMARY IS TEXT LIFTED FROM THE ARTICLE. IF THE SEARCH TERM IS FOUND IN THE SUMMARY, IT WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED.

IF YOU WANT TO CONDUCT A NEW SEARCH, THE SEARCH AGAIN BUTTON IS AVAILABLE AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE RESULTS LIST.

HELPFUL HINTS

* Conduct searches using as few terms as possible to get broad results. HMMWV HMMWV High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV is a trademark of AM General LLC; aka HUMVEE, also a trademark of AM General LLC)  is better than high mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicle Noun 1. wheeled vehicle - a vehicle that moves on wheels and usually has a container for transporting things or people; "the oldest known wheeled vehicles were found in Sumer and Syria and date from around 3500 BC"
axle - a shaft on which a wheel rotates
.

* Using more search terms will produce fewer, but more specific results. A search for HMMWV alternator alternator: see generator.
alternator

Source of direct electric current in modern vehicles for ignition, lights, fans, and other uses. The electric power is generated by an alternator mechanically coupled to the engine, with a rotor field coil
will find articles about alternators on HMMWVs.

* Place multiple search terms in quotes to find only those articles that contain all of the search terms in the specified order. "recovery vehicle" = 64 items vs recovery vehicle = 74 items.

* If the desired info is not found, try using fewer or related search terms.

* For model numbers, a search for the basic form may give you better results. If looking for Looking for

In the context of general equities, this describing a buy interest in which a dealer is asked to offer stock, often involving a capital commitment. Antithesis of in touch with.
the thermal sight, AN/PAS-13(V)3, use AN/PAS-13 or AN/PAS-13*.

* The tool searches for terms at the beginning of a word. "drive" returns drive, drives, driver, driven, driving, driveshaft; but it may also find screwdriver screwdriver,
n See instrument, screwdriver.
.

* Searches aRe not CAse sensitive.

THESE HELPFUL HINTS WILL IMPROVE YOURE SEARCHES.

Wild Cards Symbols used to represent any value when selecting specific files. In DOS, Windows and Unix, the asterisk (*) represents any collection of characters, and the question mark (?) represents one single character. In SQL, the percent sign (%) and underscore (_) are used for matching text.

The asterisk (*) replaces any character(s) before or after the search term.

* If you know the first part of a search term, use a trailing asterisk. 5940-01-517* will return pages with NSN NSN National Stock Number
NSN Nokia Siemens Networks
NSN National Storytelling Network
NSN NATO Stock Number
NSN New Substances Notification (CEPA)
NSN National Student Number (NZ)
NSN Never Say Never
 5940-01-517-7731, for example.

* If you know only the last four numbers in an NSN, use the (*) before it. "7731 will find pages with NSN 5940-01-517-7731, for example.

* If you know only the middle part of a search term, use an (*) before and after: *517* will return NSN 5940-01-517-7731, for example.

* The question mark (?) matches any character in a specific position. 09?04?2006 will find articles with 09-04-2006 or 09/04/2006, for example.

* The asterisk (*) and question mark (?) wild cards can be used together. TM 9?2320?387* will find articles with TM 9-2320-387-10, for example.

HOWEVER, THERE ARE ALWAYS TIMES WHEN YOU CAN'T RECALL THE WHOLE NSN OR TM NUMBER.

IN THAT CASE, OUR WILD CARDS MAY COME IN HANDY Verb 1. come in handy - be useful for a certain purpose
be - have the quality of being; (copula, used with an adjective or a predicate noun); "John is rich"; "This is not a good answer"
