Finalists of E&Y key awards announced in Oman.
Making the announcement at a press meet held yesterday at its Qurum office, Rajeev Singh, partner at Ernst and Young (E&Y), Oman, said, "The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Award is unique. It opens the door for an entrepreneur from Oman to be recognised by the world community of entrepreneurs. And also unique is the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year. Oman is an emerging economy, at the growing stage and we want to encourage the younger generation."
"We are excited to announce an impressive line-up of short-listed finalists for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award held in Oman for the first time. They are Dr Mohammed Al Barwani, Samir J. Fancy, Hussain Salman Al Lawati and Maqbool Hameed Mohammed Al Saleh. The local award category for the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year also has some strong competition amongst the finalists -Jinesh Ashwin Dharamsey, Abdulla Ahmad Sulaiman Al Hadi, and Nabeel Abdullah Al-Riyami and Mohammed Said Al-Marjabi (as joint entry). Each of them is already a winner and we extend best of luck at the next level of the competition." A total of 22 nominations were received.
The two winners amongst the finalists will be announced on March 17 at a glittering ceremony to be held at Ritz Carlton Al Bustan Palace Hotel. The winner of the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award will represent Oman at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2012.
Sridhar Sridharan, managing partner, Ernst & Young, said, "The Emerging Entrepreneur Award is meant only for Oman. It will bring out the sparks of entrepreneurship and the young entrepreneur has lots of promise. Though these awards are conceived and implemented by us but we don't select the winners as we have an independent panel, which goes through a process of evaluation independently."
"The winner of the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be provided with free consultancy from us as a token of appreciation for his/her dynamic spirit he/she shown in building the business," he added.
The short-listed finalists in both the categories will need to submit the filled-in questionnaire to us on March 1 while from March 8 the judges' panel will go through them for evaluation for a week and will select the winner on March 17 after a one-on-one interaction between the judges and the finalists.
Rajeev Singh observed, "We are delighted to launch this global award programme for the first time in Oman, this year. Having launched this programme in the first week of January 2012, we are encouraged by the strong interest. The quality of applications received is really impressive, and strong testimony to the track record of entrepreneurs in Oman. I have no doubt that these awards will be closely contested between the finalists."
The EOY award programme in Oman has been run at two levels, with one award each for the Entrepreneur of the Year and the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year. The primary award, Entrepreneur of the Year, is for well-established individuals running successful companies. The Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year is a local competition restricted to Oman.
The award values the role of entrepreneurs in any economy, and entrepreneurship has been identified as one of the key differentiating themes for our global organisation.
