Filmmaker Aaron Russo dies.


On August 24, cancer claimed the life of noted filmmaker Aaron Aaron (âr`ən), in the Bible, the brother of Moses and his spokesman in Egypt, and the first high priest of the Hebrews. He is presented as the instrument of God in performing many signs, such as the turning of his rod into a serpent and  Russo at age 64. Born in Brooklyn, Russo became a force in the rock and roll music industry as a young man. He eventually formed a partnership with Bette Midler Bette Midler (born December 1 1945) is an American singer, actress and comedienne, also known to her fans as The Divine Miss M. She is named after the actress Bette Davis although Davis pronounced her first name in two syllables, and Midler uses one.  and their production of Clams on the Hall Shell won a Tony award. Turning to film production, he received seven Golden Globe and six Academy Award nominations over the years.

In 1996, he began making political statements via his film Aaron Russo Mad as Hell. It attracted the attention of libertarians who persuaded him to run for Nevada governor, a race in which he finished a commendable com·mend
