Filler-capable mixhead now accepts scrap foam. (RIM/Urethanes).

A specialized mixhead developed for metering fillers has been modified to allow addition of recycled polyurethane foam Noun 1. polyurethane foam - a foam made by adding water to polyurethane plastics

(Filler Fed Head) mixhead introduced two years ago by Edge-Sweets, Grand Rapids, Mich., now has a redesigned hopper/feeder that can feed PUR scrap in the form of fine powder or larger pieces directly into the head.

The system comprises a metering unit, hopper/feeder, and high-shear dynamic mixer that controls shear rate independently from the metering rate. The FFH was originally developed to handle fillers such as melamine melamine (mĕl`əmēn'), common name for 2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazine. Melamine is a trimer (see polymer) of cyanamide, H2NC≡N, and is synthesized from calcium carbide.  for imparting flame retardancy and barium sulfate barium sulfate: see barite.  for increasing the density of PUR foams. The newer modifications still allow the system to be used for these purposes.
