Each year The Cancer League holds its Gala to raise funds for the American Cancer Society American Cancer Society,

This year the gala will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2002, as people from the Metro Jackson area gather at The Crown Plaza hotel The Plaza Hotel in New York City is a landmark 19-story luxury hotel with a height of 250 feet (76 m) and length of 400 feet that (122 m) occupies the west side of Grand Army Plaza, from which it derives its name, and extends along Central Park South in Manhattan.  located on East Amite Street in downtown Jackson to support the fight against cancer. The community is invited to join numerous corporate sponsors and Friends of The Cancer League for this exciting event.

The theme of this year's Gala is The Crystal Ball. Gala chairman Mary Ann Lefoldt said, "The Cancer League Gala is a first-class event with a seated dinner. We have many activities going on during the evening. Our guests have a wonderful time, and most of them usually return the next year." The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and lasts until midnight. Dress is black tie (optional). Ticket prices are $125 per person and include dinner and entertainment by The Memphis Soul Memphis soul is stylish, funky, uptown soul music that is not as hard edged as Southern soul. . Immediately following dinner, while dessert is being served, there will be two live auctions (art and main) and a silent auction. The Cancer League Gala is now in its 22nd year. Lefoldt is expecting a turnout near or above last year's number of 625 attendees, who helped The Cancer League raise $329,000 for the American Cancer Society.
