Fifty years of ballet in West Virgina.The Charleston Ballet remembers its founder Andre Vail Damme and his widow Maggy when the company opens its 50th anniversary season. Since 1956, the West Virginia company has presented more than 150 original works in addition to traditional ballets. When the former Brussels Royal Opera star died in 1989, Van Damme's protege and principal dancer Kim Pauley took over as director. This month she'll dance Giselle with guest Olivier Wecxsteen (formerly of Boston Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens Les Grands Ballets Canadiens is a Canadian ballet company based in Montreal, Quebec.
