 lies the World War II Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial The Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial is an American war cemetery in Southern France, memorializing American soldiers and mariners who died in Second World War operations in that area. The cemetery covers 12 acres within the city of Draguignan. . There, in the city of Draguignan (Var), the Seventh Army made a surprise landing in southern France on Aug. 19, 1944. The headstones of 861 American military dead rest on 12 acres at the foot of a hill.

On the hillside overlooking the burial area lies a chapel with its large sculpted sculpt
