Fiberstars Lights Up the Trump Tower Millennium Christmas Tree; 45-Foot NYC Holiday Centerpiece is one of the Larger Fiber Optic Interior Installations.FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1999-- Fiberstars, Inc. (Nasdaq:FBST), the world's leading supplier of fiber optic lighting, today announced that it designed, fabricated and installed the Trump Tower Millennium Holiday Tree, the largest fiber optic Christmas display ever built. The Tree, located in the Trump Tower Atrium at 725 Fifth Avenue in New York City, will be unveiled on Nov. 22. The 45-foot Trump Millennium "Tree" is a perforated metal, gold-coated display mounted in front of the Trump Tower's central 75-foot marble Atrium WaterWall. The tree has more than 14,500 individual points of fiber optic light strung through the perforations that sparkle in white light with hints of peach and amber. It contains 33 miles of optical fiber. A gold star mounted on top will also be lit with fiber optic end points. Water from The Atrium WaterWall will be redirected over the Millennium tree. Fiber optic lighting can be used safely in water because no voltage runs through the fibers and there is no electricity in the light that could cause a hazardous situation. There will be no need to change burned-out light bulbs in the tree because the light source is located in a central place. Fiber optics lighting has already proven to be more energy efficient, safer and a maintenance-free alternative to traditional lighting sources. "Trump Tower is known for its sense of style and uniqueness and the Millennium Tree reflects these special values," said Donald J. Trump, President of the Trump Organization. "We seek to have the highest quality in every one of our projects. And the Millennium Tree, with its cutting-edge technology and innovation, helps us to achieve that level of quality." Thousands of visitors flock to New York every year to see the city's beautiful and creative holiday exhibits. Trump Tower is especially popular, with people lining up around the block to wait their turn to view The Atrium's holiday decor. Although this is the first time The Trump Organization has used optical fiber lighting in Trump Tower, the organization has used the versatile lighting product in its other properties. Many of the Trump casinos feature animated fiber optic displays. Trump's Taj Mahal in Atlantic City features fiber optic lighting that was also created by FibreOptics International, the same division of Fiberstars that designed the Trump Millennium Christmas Tree and coordinated its installation. "We are very excited to provide the spectacular lighting effects for the famous Trump Tower holiday tree," said Fred Martin, COO of Fiberstars. "We believe fiber optics is the preferred lighting choice of the next millennium, and this exhibit is a terrific venue to demonstrate the beauty, versatility and advantages of our products." The Millennium Christmas Tree was built, erected and tested in Burbank, Calif., and then dismantled and shipped to Trump Tower where it was re-assembled the week of Nov. 15. It will be unveiled at a press conference reception on Nov. 22. The tree will be on view at Trump Tower through Jan. 6, 2000.
