Event Benefits Gilda's Club Gilda's Club, named in tribute to the late comic actress Gilda Radner, who died of ovarian cancer in 1989, is a community meeting place for people living with cancer, their families and friends. There are 22 open clubhouses and nine in development in North America.  Worldwide, Marie Curie Cancer Care Marie Curie Cancer Care is a charitable organization (a Registered Charity) in the United Kingdom which provides nursing care, free of charge, to terminally ill people, giving them the chance to choose to be cared for – and die – at home.  

A world record will be set on Saturday, April 6 when an expected 10,000 pipers and drummers from 30 countries and every state in U.S. participate in the ScottishPower Tunes of Glory parade in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

Beginning with formal ceremonies at 1:30pm, it will span 32 city blocks from 43rd Street, north on Sixth Avenue, turning west on Central Park South and then north along West Drive in Central Park. ScottishPower Tunes of Glory coincides with both April Cancer Awareness Month and National Tartan Day -- a U.S. celebration of Scotland's ancestral ties with America. It will help raise much needed funding to support people living with cancer on both sides of the Atlantic. Primary beneficiaries will be U.S. -- based Gilda's Club Worldwide and the Scottish branch of UK-based Marie Curie Cancer Care. The event will also celebrate Scotland's traditional musical heritage and strengthen ties with the Scottish diaspora around the globe.
