Festivals and California Dance.


The American College Dance Festival Association's schedule for 1999 includes three days of workshops, master classes, lecture demonstrations, and adjudicated performances at each site. ACDFA ACDFA American College Dance Festival Association (Rockville, MD)  is committed to supporting and promoting college and university dance through sponsorship of regional and national festivals. Central to the educational mission of ADCFA is the adjudication process, through which students and faculty receive feedback from a panel of nationally recognized dance professionals in an open and constructive procedure. These festivals are the primary means for college and university dance departments to perform outside their own academic setting and to become exposed to the diversity of the national college dance scene. The ACDFA 1999 schedule includes:

March 3-7

Colorado State University Colorado State University, at Fort Collins; land-grant with state and federal support; chartered 1870, opened 1879 as an agricultural college, assumed present name in 1957. University of Central Oklahoma History

The first ACDFA festival was held January 14-17, at Springfield College, Springfield, MA 01109-3797.

The American Dance Festival The American Dance Festival is a six-week summer festival of modern dance performances, and a school for dance currently held at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.  will hold its third Dancing for the Camera International Festival of Film Video Dance in Durham, North Carolina Durham is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is the county seat of Durham CountyGR6 and is the fourth-largest city in the state by population. , as part of its 1999 season, June 10-July 24.

ADF (1) (Application Development Facility) An IBM programmer-oriented mainframe application generator that runs under IMS.

(2) (Automatic Document Feeder) A paper stacker that feeds one sheet of paper at a time into the unit.
 is soliciting entries in three categories: (1) choreography for the camera, original work made specifically for the medium or a staged work remade for camera; (2) documentary, productions which include interviews or other educational elements in addition to choreography; and (3) experimental, work that extends the boundaries of the medium and can exist only in the realm of video or film. Point Park College president Katherine Henderson and Ronald Allan-Lindblom, chairman of the fine, applied and performing arts department, have made the following announcements concerning the Pittsburgh-based school:

1. PPC will institute a three-year course, master of arts Master of Arts

 in dance, geared to recent graduates and midcareer professionals beginning in the fall of 2003.

2. The Playhouse Dance Theatre, the college's dance group, has been renamed the Playhouse Dance Company. It plans four productions per season. Student choreography showcases will be offered in the fall and spring.

3. The Playhouse Dance Company's theater has been renamed the Pittsburgh Playhouse of Point Park College.

4. The department of fine, applied and performing arts has been renamed Point Park Conservatory of Performing Arts.

The California State University Enrollment
 at Long Beach Department of Dance, College of the Arts, has announced its spring concert series: February 5-6, Mark Haim in The Goldberg Variations; March 13-14, River North Dance Company; March 18-21, CSULB CSULB California State University at Long Beach  Contemporary Dance; May 5-9, CSULB Dance Company, and May 21-22, Jeff Slayton, Casey Carney & Friends in "An Evening of Dance." All performances will take place at the Martha B. Knoebel Dance Theater at CSULB, 1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90840.

The Department of World Arts and Cultures and its Center for Intercultural Performance of the University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States).  at Los Angeles presented Ah Q! in three December performances. Based upon the book, The Real Story of Ah Q!, by Lu Xun, the performances were a dance-theater collaboration built around China's best-known literary character as adapted by choreographer Victoria Marks and playwright Xu Ying. The production was an outgrowth of the CIP's 1996 and 1997 Asia Pacific Performance Exchange of international artists and writers summer residency program at UCLA.
